How fear can serve you

Shadow photoOn the path of spirituality and enlightened living, since we strive to get into the mode of trusting, having faith, and being fearless, we try to distance ourselves from fear. And when we feel fear, we often see this as a sign of spiritual weakness.

But is it possible that fear can actually serve us in some way? Continue reading How fear can serve you

Love as a doorway to Awakening

A million words can be said about love. And yet the true experience of love lies way beyond anything we can say about it. Love is ultimately beyond words and always escapes the grasp of the mind.

Love has a million expressions, and it flows into infinite forms and experiences. Yet just behind the myriad of manifestations, love is at the very essence of who we are. Continue reading Love as a doorway to Awakening

Wealth Success and Spirituality

This is a feature article I first wrote for the Life Coaching Inisights website. It is a topic which is close to my heart – the message that the path of spirituality and material engagement are not separate paths. These pursuits are not mututally exclusive. They can overlap perfectly and harmoniously. Here’s how…

Traditionally we are accustomed to seeing the pursuit of success and wealth as completely divergent from the path of self-development and spirituality. Consciously or subconsciously we tend to divide our pursuits into two broad categories: inner development and outer achievement. But when we take a closer look, we see that both pursuits can be aspects of the same path.
My thanks go to Devin Iyer, my friend and erstwhile business partner, who wrote this intriguing article for this week’s Blog post. You can find out more about Devin and how to contact him, at the bottom of the post. Continue reading Wealth Success and Spirituality

Moving Beyond Ownership

farm photo

The concept and phenomenon we call “ownership” has always seemed rather strange to me.

Take land ownership for example: if the earth is about 4.5 billion years old, and you are – say- 50 years old, how can you truly OWN a piece of the earth?! Let me write that slightly differently to show the absurdity of it: how can something which is 50 years old actually possess something which is 4,500,000,000 years old! That would be like a 1 minute old bacterial cell on your fingernail claiming ownership of you! Continue reading Moving Beyond Ownership

Feeling Whole and Enlightened Attraction

Many of us think that if we are wanting more, we must necessarily be unhappy with where we are, or we must be trying to escape our current circumstances. Many think that the teaching of deliberate attraction is contrary to the traditional spiritual teaching of contentment.

Yet it is entirely possible to be in full acceptance of our current set of circumstances, yet at the same time to seek to experience more. Continue reading Feeling Whole and Enlightened Attraction

Open Your Heart

hearts photoOpen your heart to all those around you. By opening your heart to others, you will open your heart to the Divine essence. Your heart contains an intelligence that is profound. It is intimately connected with every other heart. In this sense we are all of one heart. We are One.

Misapprehension of this truth, and coming to believe in our false identities has served to divide us, with this sense of division and separation expressing in untold misery, depression, disease and violence. Continue reading Open Your Heart

How is Philosophy even relevant or useful in our world?

scriptures photo

One of the words I’ve used on my profile is “Philosopher.” I realise that this is often seen as quite an abstraction, so I’ll use this opportunity to talk about philosophy and its relevance to our modern day lives and world.

What is philosophy anyway?

Well, to begin with a very basic definition, philosophy is the study of the deeper aspects and questions of life like reality, existence, knowledge, values, purpose and existence. Continue reading How is Philosophy even relevant or useful in our world?

Life, in a paragraph

notebook photo

While chatting with an old friend the other day, she was expressing how wonderful it is to have so much knowledge so readily available to us these days especially pertaining to life and the bigger picture. She was quick to add, though, that this often leads to information overload, and leaves her at a loss of how to ‘connect the dots.’ Almost as a joke, she said she wished there was a ‘précis version’ – all in one page or one paragraph!

I thought this would be an interesting exercise, so here goes: Continue reading Life, in a paragraph

You don’t have to serve God!

offering photoI generally steer away from using the word God, as it has become a tarnished and very misunderstood word. But today I find it necessary to use the word to discuss this topic.

Some people say that our purpose in life is to serve God. Indeed some religions teach this.

Some take this further and, seeing how impractical this is, say that the only way to serve God is to serve others. Continue reading You don’t have to serve God!

The Illusions we Live With

illusion photo

The notion that this world is some kind of illusory phenomenon is not a new idea. As far back as about 6000 years ago, the philosophers of India were talking about the theory of Maya, meaning illusion. And in modern times as more and more in the western world are awakening to ‘spirituality’ and self-development, the illusion theory is becoming more widespread.

Yet it is one of the most difficult areas of knowledge to delve into and understand. This is because all the knowledge in the world is based on the world. It is based on what we perceive through the senses and through scientific equipment which serves as an extension of the senses. Some knowledge is based on inference.
