If we are urging first world countries to forgive the debt of poorer third world countries, are we willing to do this on a personal level too?
I believe we should. As above, so below. What works for the macrocosm must work for the microcosm.
Whether your supposed oppressor or aggressor has hurt you with words or in other ways, it helps you more than them to assume a stance of forgiveness. Whether or you let your aggressor off the hook or choose to take the matter to court, it still helps to assume this stance internally. Continue reading Forgiving Personal Debt
One of the words I’ve used on my profile is “Philosopher.” I realise that this is often seen as quite an abstraction, so I’ll use this opportunity to talk about philosophy and its relevance to our modern day lives and world.
While chatting with an old friend the other day, she was expressing how wonderful it is to have so much knowledge so readily available to us these days especially pertaining to life and the bigger picture. She was quick to add, though, that this often leads to information overload, and leaves her at a loss of how to ‘connect the dots.’ Almost as a joke, she said she wished there was a ‘précis version’ – all in one page or one paragraph!
Having lived as a contemplative monk in India for a few years, and having returned to the world to explore and embrace the world of money and commerce, I take care to point out the difference between materialism and material engagement.[/caption]Material engagement is unavoidable, since we are also physical beings inhabiting in a physical world, and there are enlightened ways to engage in the world of “stuff” in the form of beautiful things, cars, houses, fine artwork etc, and in the world of work, business, and wealth creation. “Money”, like most English words can have many different definitions and interpretations. Indeed, English itself can be an ambiguous language at the best of times, in which meaning most often depends on context and even culture.
Since there is generally a lot of vagueness around the terms of awareness, consciousness and enlightenment, I wrote this post to bring more definition, distinction and clarity to these terms..
One could define without too much difficulty what a flower is, or even what a space shuttle is. These are objects of your awareness, as is any material object in our world. Even events – like rain or Christmas – are objects of your awareness, and are not too difficult to understand or describe. Continue reading On Awareness, Consciousness and Enlightenment
Now here’s a perspective on money which you probably haven’t heard before, and which will help you relate to money differently, and influence your ability to attract more of it into your life: You might be used to thinking – either consciously or subconsciously – that you need money. Have you ever considered that it could also be true be that money needs you?!
Here’s what I mean by this. Firstly everything is energy. Every single thing in the manifested universe is energy. The sun is energy. The earth and everything on it are forms of energy. This means that you too are energy. Your thoughts and emotions are forms of energy. Even our social constructs like the law, or friendship, or holidays embody a certain energy. So too with the thing we call money. Continue reading Money Needs You!
I’m sure you’ve heard the argument a hundred times before – your spiritually aware, new-age-leaning, gentle hippie friend says “Ah, but it’s all perfect!” And sooner than you can allow yourself to contemplate that, your other friend, a self-proclaimed pragmatist, an undying realist, shouts: “But how can you say that?! With all the war, and abuse, and violence, and murder, and poverty in the world, how dare you say it’s perfect?”
The notion that this world is some kind of illusory phenomenon is not a new idea. As far back as about 6000 years ago, the philosophers of India were talking about the theory of Maya, meaning illusion. And in modern times as more and more in the western world are awakening to ‘spirituality’ and self-development, the illusion theory is becoming more widespread.
Yet it is one of the most difficult areas of knowledge to delve into and understand. This is because all the knowledge in the world is based on the world. It is based on what we perceive through the senses and through scientific equipment which serves as an extension of the senses. Some knowledge is based on inference.
